Memorial Day Makeover

Summer officially starts in the end of June, the 21st to be exact (don't ask mehow I know that). However, I personally think Summer kicks off when the thousands of grills are lit across the country this weekend: Memorial Day Weekend.

My crew and I are headed to Palm Beach for a weekend long wedding celebration, but for those of you who will be celebrating?
Forget the jello shots, Spring Break was months ago! Start your Summer of right with curious new beers from unexpected places (not your local 7-11).

Southern Hospitality. On a farm deep in Cajun Country, Louisiana, Bayou teche brewery is turning an old train car into a tap room to pour its homemade Belgian-style ales. Check it out at bayoutechebrewing.com. The brew is currently only offered in LA, but we can cross our fingers, right?

More than cheesesteaks. Lit by 75 candles, Philly's Fork and Barrel has an old world vibe and an epic list of beer, including one brewed by Italian prisoners says reports. www.forkandbarrel.com

Errands Evny. At Eataly in NYC, customers can shop for groceries and have a beer on their new rooftop beer garden, La Birreria. An added bonus? Mario Batali is behind the pairings. www.eatlyny.com

In our backyard. Known for being in the stogie producing business, Tampa is heavily influenced by its Cuban population. Brewer Wayne Wambles takes inspiration from cigar flavors to create his beers. www.cigarcitybrewing.com

For the ladies...a lighter side

Try Sean Paxton's , founder of www.homebrewchef.com, Orange-and-Ale Vinaigrette

In a small bowl, whisk 3 ounces of India Pale Ale with 1 tablespoon minced shallot, 1 teaspoon grated orange zest, 1 tablespoon honey and 1 teaspoon dijion mustard. Gradually add 4 tablespoons of olive oil and
whisk. Season with salt and pepper and serve with sala
d or over grilled veggies.

Not quite sure what craft beer is best for you and your crew? Take the short cut (I do it too). Total Wine & More is a megastore full of speciality beer and microbrew selections. The best part is that they let customers mix and match their own six packs. Check it out before the big cookout this weekend--you will have your friends talking.
